The American Embassy was an easy walk across the street. Once the ceremony finally started it was a nice length, not too long, with speeches from the ambassador, PC country director and project administrator and entertainment provided by groups within our different sectors, CRM performing the grand finale number.

When we walked back to the hotel there was a massive presence of Pulis with full riot garb on high alert because of demonstrations. I haven’t been watching the news but apparently something happened at the embassy in Libya? All American Embassies were on heightened security.  We were put on lock down in the hotel. I could see the demonstration from my window. I’m not sure what it was about but by 8:00 the lock down was lifted and we were able to go out and celebrate as planned.
