My host family is involved with a ‘Feed the Children’ organization called Norwood Cares. On every third Saturday of the month we go to a fishing community in Hilongos and host a feeding of children who are sighed up for the program.
Today was the end of the year celebration for all the families held in the Hilongos gymnasium. My extended family members have been busy for months with the preparations. We had a huge turn out and it was a big success.
Buddy Villarubin dressed up like Santa Claus and Rene Miraflor as a clown. Gifts
of tee-shirts, calendars, flip flops, rice, candy and other food were given.
This was in addition to a buffet including all those roasted piglets we’ve been
fattening up at our house.
The mayor of Hilongos provided transportation for the Cebu University Dancers to come and perform an incredible show of dancing, singing and comedy.
Maybe you remember those cute little pigletts we've had here, fattening them up for the Norwwood event. Here they are on their way to the feast. Bye bye.
This was their Sinulog dance. I didn't make it to the annual Sinulog Festival, or Feast of Santo Nino (the Christ Child) in Cebu. 'The word sinulog means a dance simulating the rhythm of the river. It originated as an animist ritual but after the Cebuanos' conversion to Christianity it morphed into a dance to honor the image of Santo Nino.'(Lonely Planet). I watched some of it on TV. It went on four hours and hours. There's a huge parade and every group performs a dance to the same music, always involving carrying a little Santo Nino statue throughout the choreograpy.
