The Park for Kids Community Project

September 1, 2012

We traveled home to Sabang to begin ground breaking and work on our community project, the park for kids. The community has had plans to make this park for four years. In fact CRM batch 268 trainees are the ones who painted the mural as their community project four years ago.

We conducted a socio-economic survey as part of our CRM planning. One of the questions asked was what projects would community members like for Sabang. A park for kids was decided upon.

We did not build this park alone. The community pitched in with many people working hard along side us and people from Anvaya Cove Resort were very happy and excited to be part of it as well. They sent an army of volunteers and donated the monkey bars and wood for the jungle gym as well as plants and trees.

The bottle brick benches were successfully constructed after a few days of community participation in stuffing bottles with plastic trash collected from the beach and streets.

This has been an amazing and very rewarding experience. The grand opening was on September 11th. Our barangay captain cut the ribbon, children added their handprints to the mural and everyone was excited and happy to see how much the kids love the park. Nobody had seen a tetherball before. This has been a huge hit. Thirteen days later that ball had had little rest. The boys LOVE it; even older boys, like teenagers are loving being able to punch at it with all their might.
